Mechanics Institute Spiral
This is the staircase in the Mechanic's Institute Library in the SOMA (South of Market Area) of San Francisco. I had found it using the stuck on earth app and a curated list from Thomas Hawk of places to see in the city. My fellow master in the Arcanum Wes Hardaker, Danielle, and I all went to check it out. Thankfully when we arrived the doorman was away from his post, which gave us the chance to waltz right in and have a look around. We climbed up to the top and took some pictures from a bunch of different angles and levels, until eventually we were spotted by the doorman himself! What followed was the most gentle and polite scolding I have ever received haha. He was very kind and just made sure that 1) we hadn't taken any pictures of people, and 2) that we knew this was a private building - that second part accompanied by the knowing look he gave us made it clear that it would be a good time to head down the stairs and towards the door. Anyway before moving on a took a last couple frames from the bottom looking up (including this one here) and several of them turned out to be my favorites. I am glad that I risked overstaying my not-so-welcome to get those last few shots.
