Iconic San Francisco
Battery Spencer - San Francisco - USA
In my recent trip (Sept 2015) to San Francisco for the Trey USA Photowalk and an Arcanum Masters get together I had to stop in at Battery Spencer to try my hand at the iconic view of the golden gate bridge. We had spent the afternoon partying away with the other masters, and after a long day of flights, and a long evening of socializing I almost decided against stopping to take some shots. Thankfully, good sense won out in the end and Danielle and I took the detour and made the short hike up to this incredible spot.
Typically, everyone gets the same shot from this spot (at least from a compositional standpoint), so I tried to mix it up a little and zoom in. Instead of showing both towers and much more of the city lights, I decided to make this one about the bridge itself and the rolling hills behind it. One tip when shooting scenes like this is to make sure you have any in camera image stabilization turned off. Otherwise the camera will pick up on things like moving headlights or planes and can cause a motion blur in the final shot as it tries to adjust for what it is sensing. So even if you manage to keep your camera steady on the tripod and stable in the pretty strong winds at this spot, you might end up with blurry photos if you forget to turn those settings off.
