Chapada Diamantina - Lencois, Brazil
Hummingbabies = Hummingbird babies. I had never seen a hummingbird nest or chicks until this one, and well there is no gentle way to say it... they are actually pretty ugly, though still somehow cute I suppose. We stumbled upon this tiny nest (and likely would have missed it without our guide) on a 4 mile hike up to Cachoeira da Fumaça (smoke waterfall). While the waterfall and view at the top are truly stunning, the little treasures, like this nest, along the way were equally stunning. Once we stopped I took a few pictures of them and so did our hiking companions. Apparently these little guys get a bit camera shy because while the other photographer was taking a picture, one of these babies stuck its little backside up towards the camera and peed on him! It was pretty crazy - hummingbabies have some serious attitude! Anyway the nest and the babies were just genuinely very cool and fun to shoot, and it let me take a shot that is a little different than I normally would with some macro/short depth of field going on.
