Tampa Aquarium, Tampa, FL USA
These Leafy Seadragons are one of the coolest and most otherworldly creatures I have ever seen - and even more importantly they prove that dragons are real! They only naturally live in the western and southern coasts of Australia, but the Florida Aquarium has a couple of them in their “Dragon’s Down Under” exhibit. The seadragons majestically float around in their tanks barely moving their bodies, and propelled by two small fins that are nearly transparent. This subtle movement allows them to be well camouflaged and look like a piece of floating seaweed to any potential predators. It is a bit a tricky to get a good shot of them due to the dimly lit room they are in (with very yellow light) and the thick curved glass of the tank which causes some distortion. Not to mention the yellow seaweed in their tank that allows them to blend in and display their very cool camouflage. Because of all of this I went with a black and white shot to hide everything else in the background and to really put the focus on this amazing creature and its incredible shape!
